Lewandowski scores in farewell but Barcelona beaten 3-1 by Valencia

Where The Pressure Lands

Valencia came from behind to defeat Barcelona 3-1 in a dramatic final-day LaLiga match at Mestalla, though the victory proved insufficient for European qualification.

Robert Lewandowski marked his last Barcelona appearance with a goal, striking just after the hour mark to put the champions ahead. The lead lasted only five minutes before Javi Guerra leveled with a composed finish, and within minutes Valencia had seized control.

The matchup already has enough history; the job is to keep the reading list shorter than the tension.

Following work from Jesús Vázquez, Guerra's shot was blocked but fell to Luis Rioja, who fired past Wojciech Szczesny. The hosts thought they had a penalty when Marc Bernal appeared to bring down Vázquez, but VAR determined the incident occurred outside the box.

The Detail That Tilts It

Guido Rodríguez added a third goal deep in stoppage time, firing in from distance. Valencia held on for the win, but Getafe's victory over Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano's win at Alaves ensured the hosts remained out of European contention.

Early chances fell to Hugo Duro, Rioja and Unai Núñez before Diego López fired wide. Ronald Araújo produced a crucial block to deny López late in the first half. Barcelona's closest opportunity came when Lewandowski headed against the post before halftime.

Núñez brought a good save from Szczesny as the half ended with Valencia threatening. The hosts lost Lopez early in the second half to a knee injury, but moments later fell behind when Ferran Torres' volley was diverted goalwards by Lewandowski for his 119th Barcelona goal.

What The Result Leaves

Valencia appealed for a penalty when Núñez went down, but the protest was dismissed. Two minutes later, Guerra equalized with a feint to beat Szczesny. Before Barcelona could respond, Vázquez set up Guerra whose blocked shot fell to Rioja for the go-ahead goal.

VAR later denied Valencia another penalty, keeping Barcelona in the match. Stole Dimitrievski made two saves to deny Andreas Christensen before Rodríguez's powerful strike sealed the result.
