Barcelona's option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently from Manchester United for €30 million is set to expire on Monday without the La Liga club activating the clause, according to ESPN.
Rashford, 28, spent last season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United. ESPN reported that the loan agreement included a purchase option this summer and that Barcelona had to notify United by June 15 if they planned to execute it.
Rashford Option Carries €30m Clause
The option is worth €30m and would be payable in three instalments of €10m, ESPN reported. Barcelona have not ruled out returning for Rashford later in the summer, but any renewed deal would need more favourable terms.
That distinction matters. Letting the option pass does not automatically end Barcelona's interest, but it does remove the pre-agreed route to a permanent transfer at the existing price and structure.
ESPN also reported that Manchester United are currently unwilling to move from the €30m valuation. Rashford's next step is therefore still open, with United, Barcelona and other potential suitors all tied to the wider summer market.
Loan Season Gave Barcelona A Real Sample
Rashford's season in Spain gave Barcelona more than a short trial. ESPN credited him with 14 goals and 14 assists during a campaign in which Hansi Flick's side won LaLiga and the Spanish Supercopa.
He was not always a guaranteed starter, with Raphinha preferred on the left at times and Rashford also used from the right when Lamine Yamal was injured. ESPN noted that Barcelona's signing of Anthony Gordon, another left winger, has reduced the urgency to complete a permanent deal for Rashford.
The June 15 deadline now turns the story from a contract option into a negotiation question. If Barcelona go back for Rashford, it is expected to be on different financial terms rather than the €30m mechanism already built into the loan.
