Barcelona And Atletico Madrid Battle Over Bernardo Silva And Marc Cucurella

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are reportedly chasing the same two transfer targets, with Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella both on the La Liga rivals' summer lists ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Bernardo Silva Draws Barcelona And Atletico Interest

Football Espana, citing Barca Universal and Spanish football reports, said both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are pursuing Silva as his Manchester City contract moves toward its June 30 expiry. The 31-year-old Portugal international has been linked with Barcelona in previous transfer windows.

Atletico had reportedly looked like the stronger contender in recent months, but Barcelona are said to have narrowed that gap. Silva is expected to wait until after the World Cup with Portugal before deciding his next club, giving both La Liga sides time to work through the financial and sporting details.

For Barcelona, any move for Silva would still sit inside the club's familiar constraints around spending limits, outgoing players and La Liga registration. Atletico, by contrast, are described in the report as having a financial advantage after investing heavily in recent windows.

Marc Cucurella Contract Complicates La Liga Chase

Cucurella is the second point of overlap. The 26-year-old Spanish left-back joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, and his Stamford Bridge contract runs until 2028, meaning any move would require a transfer fee rather than a free-agent negotiation.

Atletico Madrid are looking at Cucurella as a direct option on the left side, according to the report. Barcelona's interest carries a different angle because Cucurella came through La Masia and has kept ties with the club, but a return would still depend on Hansi Flick's wider defensive rebuild.

That distinction matters. Silva is a timing and salary question because his Manchester City deal is close to ending. Cucurella is a fee, squad-shape and Chelsea negotiation question. One target is about beating rivals to a free agent; the other is about whether either Spanish club can make the numbers work.

Julian Alvarez Dispute Adds Transfer Context

The shared pursuit comes while Barcelona and Atletico are already arguing over Julian Alvarez. Football Espana noted that Barcelona have disputed Atletico's public claim that no 100 million euro offer for Alvarez was received.

That backdrop gives the Silva and Cucurella stories extra edge, but the practical issues are still clear. Barcelona need room to register signings, Atletico need to decide how far to stretch a busy squad plan, and both clubs are watching two players with very different contract situations.

Silva's post-World Cup timeline should keep that case open for several weeks. Cucurella's longer Chelsea deal is less flexible. For Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, the overlap is real, but the route to each player is not the same.
