Brazil winger Rodrygo set to miss World Cup after tearing ACL in Real Madrid's loss to

Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that Brazil international Rodrygo tore his ACL and lateral meniscus in Los Blancos' 1-0 loss to Getafe on Monday.

The 25-year-old Sao Paulo native came on in the 55th minute as a substitute for Thiago Pitarch, who was making his La Liga debut. It was Rodrygo's first appearance since Feb. 1 with the Santos youth product dealing with tendinitis in his knee.

Season Stats

In his 36 minutes of work against Gatafe, Rodrygo had three shots, including one on target. He finishes his seventh season at the Bernabeu with one league goal in 19 appearances.

World Cup Dreams Over

The injury means Rodrygo will not be part of Carlo Ancelotti's squad headed to North America this summer for the World Cup. Rodrygo has made 37 appearances for the Seleçao and scored nine goals.

Brazil is set to compete in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. Its first match is scheduled for June 13 against Morocco at the Meadowlands.
