Valencia overturn deficit
Valencia came from behind to beat LaLiga champions Barcelona 3-1 at Mestalla, scoring twice in five second-half minutes. The win, however, was not enough to secure European qualification on the final day of the season.
Robert Lewandowski marked his final Barcelona appearance with a goal, putting the champions ahead just after the hour mark. Ferran Torres' volley appeared to be heading wide before the veteran striker diverted it goalwards.
The opening period was a tale of near-misses, with Hugo Duro, Luis Rioja and Unai Núñez all testing Barcelona's defense before Diego López dragged a shot wide. It took a crucial block from Ronald Araújo to deny López again late in the first half.
Alejandro Balde fired into the side netting for Barcelona, who then went closest when Lewandowski headed against an upright shortly before the break. The half ended with Valencia threatening once more as Núñez brought a good save out of Wojciech Szczesny.
Second-half turnaround
Javi Guerra levelled for Valencia five minutes after Lewandowski's opener with a composed finish. Four minutes later, following neat work from Jesús Vázquez, Guerra's shot was charged down but fell for Rioja, who fired a left-footed shot beyond Szczesny to put the hosts ahead.
Valencia thought they had a penalty when Marc Bernal brought down Vázquez, but a VAR check showed the incident happened outside the box. The third goal arrived deep into stoppage time when Guido Rodríguez found the net from outside the box.
The record needed no decoration; it already did the talking—119 goals across four seasons, bundled into one final contribution.
European hopes dashed
Valencia hung on to claim the three points, but Getafe's win over Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano's victory at Alavés kept them out of the European places.
