Barcelona Clinches 29th La Liga Title with 2-0 El Clásico Victory Over Real Madrid

Barcelona secured its 29th La Liga title and second consecutive crown with a commanding 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday, extending an insurmountable 14-point lead with three rounds remaining.

Match Summary

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a stunning free kick, curling the ball over the wall and into the top corner.

Ferran Torres doubled the lead in the 18th minute, finishing from inside the area after a flick from Dani Olmo.

A draw would have been sufficient for Barcelona to clinch the title, marking their third league championship in four seasons.

Tribute Before Kickoff

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was in the dugout for the Clásico just hours after the death of his father, which the club announced prior to kickoff.

Players from both teams wore black armbands, and there was a moment of silence observed before the match.

Flick's Emotional Celebration

"I will never forget this day. It was a tough day for me. It starts with this (news that) my father passed away, but here, my team is fantastic," Flick said after the final whistle.

"I really love it, this is like a family and they gave everything today and I'm really proud. It's amazing, in this stadium, and also in the Clásico against Real Madrid, to win La Liga."

Injuries Sideline Star Players

Barcelona played without injured Lamine Yamal, the club's biggest star, for the final league games. Yamal was on the field lifting the trophy alongside his teammates despite the injury.

Real Madrid was missing Kylian Mbappé, the league's leading scorer with 24 goals. The France forward could not recover from a left hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since late April.

Raphinha replaced Rashford in the 64th minute to return from a long injury layoff.

Madrid's Troubled Season Continues

Real Madrid, with 36 league titles, ends a second consecutive season without a major trophy.

Sunday's defeat capped an embarrassing week for Madrid, featuring altercations between players in training that resulted in fines for Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni totaling 500,000 euros each.

Valverde sustained a head injury in the altercation with Tchouaméni after allegedly knocking his head on a table. Defender Álvaro Carreras confirmed involvement in a separate "minor" incident with a teammate.

Jude Bellingham had a goal disallowed for offside in the 63rd minute.

Looking Ahead

The loss is likely to increase scrutiny of coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who was promoted from Madrid's reserve team in January when Xabi Alonso was dismissed.

"There's not a lot we can say. We understand how frustrated and dissatisfied the fans must be. The only thing we can do is work and look to the future, learn from everything that we have done badly this year," Arbeloa said.

Real Madrid is always back. We have fallen many times and we will return.
