Lewandowski scores in farewell as Barcelona lose to Valencia in season finale

Valencia came from behind to beat LaLiga champions Barcelona 3-1 in the final game of the season, but thewin was not enough to secure European qualification.

Robert Lewandowski marked his final Barcelona appearance with a goal, putting the champions ahead just after the hour mark. However, the hosts responded with two quick goals to take control of the match.

Match Summary

Javi Guerra levelled the score five minutes after Lewandowski's opener with a neat finish. Five minutes later, Luis Rioja fired in off a rebound to give Valencia the lead.

Barcelona thought they had a chance to equalise when VAR showed Marc Bernal's challenge on Jesús Vázquez occurred outside the box, denying Valencia a penalty.

The hosts added a third goal deep in stoppage time when Guido Rodríguez struck from outside the box.

European Hopefuls

Despite the win, Valencia missed out on European qualification. Getafe's win over Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano's victory at Alavés meant Valencia finished just outside the European places.

First Half

Hugo Duro, Rioja and Unai Núñez all had early chances before Diego López fired wide. Ronald Araújo produced a crucial block to deny López late in the first half.

Alejandro Balde fired into the side netting for Barcelona, while Lewandowski headed against the upright just before halftime. Núñez also brought a good save from Wojciech Szczesny.

Valencia suffered a blow early in the second half when López was forced off with a knee injury.

Second Half

Ferran Torres' volleyed strike was heading wide but Lewandowski diverted it goalwards for his 119th Barcelona goal in four seasons with the club.

Two minutes later, Guerra leveled with a feint before beating Szczesny. Before Barcelona could recover, Vázquez set up Guerra whose blocked shot fell to Rioja to fire in.

Stole Dimitrievski made two excellent saves to deny Andreas Christensen before Rodríguez completed the scoring with a powerful strike.
