Barcelona clinched its second consecutive Spanish league title and 29th overall with a commanding 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday.
Match Details
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a stunning free kick, curling the ball over the wall into the top corner. Ferran Torres doubled the lead in the 18th minute, converting from inside the area after a flick from Dani Olmo.
The win gave Barcelona an insurmountable 14-point advantage over their rivals with three rounds remaining in La Liga. A draw would have also been enough for the Catalan club to seal its third league title in four seasons.
Hansi Flick's Emotional Day
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was in the dugout for Sunday's clasico following the death of his father, which the club announced hours before kickoff.
"I will never forget this day. It was a tough day for me. It starts with this (news that) my father passed away, but here, my team is fantastic," Flick said. "I really love it, this is like a family and they gave everything today and I'm really proud."
Players from both teams wore black armbands, and there was a moment of silence before kickoff. Flick celebrated Barcelona's goals and looked emotional after the final whistle.
Madrid's Troubled Season
Kylian Mbappé was absent for Real Madrid, failing to recover from a left hamstring ailment that has kept him sidelined since late April. The France forward is the league's leading scorer with 24 goals.
The club was also without Federico Valverde, who sustained a head injury in an altercation with teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni during training. Both players were fined 500,000 euros ($589,000) each.
The loss ends Madrid's hopes of a major title this season, marking their second consecutive campaign without silverware. The club remains the most successful in La Liga history with 36 trophies.
Post-Match Reactions
Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa faced questions following the defeat: "There's not a lot we can say. We understand how frustrated and dissatisfied the fans must be. The only thing we can do is work and look to the future, learn from everything that we have done badly this year."
Earlier in the match, there was a brief scuffle in the 51st minute after Olmo confronted a Madrid player, resulting in a yellow card for the Barcelona midfielder.
Jude Bellingham had a goal disallowed for offside in the 63rd minute. Brazil forward Raphinha replaced Rashford in the 64th minute to return from a long injury layoff.
Barcelona played the final league games without the injured Lamine Yamal, who was on the field lifting the trophy alongside his teammates after the final whistle.
