Defender Ferland Mendy was injured just 10 minutes into Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Espanyol in the Spanish league on Sunday.
The 30-year-old left-back suffered an apparent right leg muscle injury while sprinting to the ball. Madrid has not yet released details on the severity of the injury.
Mendy has played only nine matches with Real Madrid this season, with a series of injuries hampering his campaign.
The latest setback could end any hopes of making France's squad for the World Cup. He was part of the French squad at the 2024 European Championship but hasn't been called up since then.
