PISA, Italy — Venezia is back in Serie A. A 2-2 draw with Spezia was enough for Giovanni Stroppa's side to wrap up promotion with a match to spare, finishing one point clear of Frosinone at the top of the Serie B table.
The draw gave Venezia the mathematical certainty it needed. No late collapses, no nerve-breaking wait. Just a calm evening's work in Tuscany to confirm what had been coming for weeks.
The table did the dramatic work without asking anyone to dress it up.
Frosinone still has a chance to join them. A win or draw against Mantova next Friday would send the club up alongside Venezia. For now, the promotion party belongs to the visitors.
The result also settled other business at the bottom of Serie A. Lecce's 2-1 win over Pisa sent the Tuscan club down after a season in which it won just two of 35 games. Verona, with 19 points, went with them — one more than Pisa was not enough to survive.
