MLB's official transaction feed lists the trade on June 17, with Seattle sending Dobnak to Kansas City for cash. The MLB player transaction feed also lists Dobnak's assignment to the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers that same day.
Dobnak Heads To Omaha After Trade
MLB Trade Rumors reported that Dobnak had triggered an upward mobility clause in his minor league deal with Seattle. Those clauses typically force the original club to either give the player a roster spot, trade him to a team willing to do so or let him pursue the opportunity.
Kansas City is giving Dobnak a place in the organization first rather than rushing him straight into the major league rotation. MLB Trade Rumors reported that he has options and was expected to be sent to Omaha initially.

Dobnak, 31, signed a minor league contract with Seattle in the offseason. MLB Trade Rumors reported that he had thrown 70 innings over 13 starts for Triple-A Tacoma, posting a 4.24 ERA.
The underlying profile is specific. MLB Trade Rumors listed Dobnak with a 12.8 percent strikeout rate, a 7.9 percent walk rate and a 59.9 percent ground-ball rate with Tacoma. That is not a power-pitcher line, but it explains why a club thin on starters would be willing to use a roster spot.
Dobnak's major league resume came with the Minnesota Twins. MLB Trade Rumors credited him with 140 2/3 MLB innings, a 4.86 ERA, a 13.9 percent strikeout rate, a 6.1 percent walk rate and a 56.8 percent ground-ball rate over multiple seasons.
Ragans Move Opens The Roster Spot
The Ragans transaction is the part that gives the trade its immediate roster context. Kansas City shifted him from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, and MLB's transaction log records the injury designation as a left elbow impingement.
MLB Trade Rumors reported that Ragans has been out since early May and recently suffered a setback. The same report noted that Kris Bubic and Seth Lugo have also landed on the injured list in recent weeks, leaving Kansas City short on established rotation depth.
