The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Jack Leiter on the 15-day injured list with right ankle posterior impingement, MLB's official transaction log listed Saturday.
The move is retroactive to June 19, 2026. Texas recalled right-hander Jose Corniell from Triple-A Round Rock in the corresponding MLB roster move.
Leiter Goes On Rangers Injured List
Leiter, 26, had been part of the Rangers' rotation before the ankle issue moved him off the active roster. MLB's player page lists him at 15 games this season, with a 3-7 record, a 5.29 ERA, 80 innings, 83 strikeouts and a 1.44 WHIP.
The official transaction wording matters because it gives the injury designation without adding a recovery forecast. Texas did not announce, through the transaction log, whether Leiter will miss only the minimum stay or need a longer reset.
Leiter's broader profile is still tied to his draft status. MLB lists him as the No. 2 overall pick by the Rangers in the 2021 draft, a Vanderbilt product who made his major league debut on April 18, 2024.
Corniell Returns From Round Rock
Corniell gives Texas a fresh right-handed arm after the roster opening. MLB's transaction log lists the recall from the Round Rock Express on the same date as Leiter's injured-list placement.
The move does not by itself settle Texas' next rotation turn. It does leave the Rangers with a short-term pitching adjustment while Leiter is unavailable and the club sorts through how to cover innings after the retroactive IL placement.
For now, the verified facts are narrow: Leiter is on the 15-day IL with a right ankle issue, the move is backdated to June 19, and Corniell has been recalled from Triple-A.
