PSG on brink of Ligue 1 crown as Lens faces must-win against relegation-threatened Nantes

The Game Turned Late

PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain could clinch the Ligue 1 title this weekend if nearest rivals Lens slip up against a Nantes side fighting for survival. The two clubs meet in a rescheduled fixture that was moved from April 11 to aid PSG's Champions League campaign.

PSG reached the Champions League final in midweek after eliminating Bayern Munich. A draw or win for the Paris club would seal a second consecutive French title, provided Lens fails to take full points against a Nantes team sitting second from bottom and facing relegation to Ligue 2.

The matchup already has enough history; the job is to keep the reading list shorter than the tension.

The fight for third place and an automatic Champions League spot remains a two-way contest between Lyon and Lille, separated by a slender margin. Third-placed Lyon travels to mid-table Toulouse with forwards Endrick, Afonso Moreira and Roman Yaremchuk in promising form. Fourth-placed Lille faces a tougher test at Monaco, who sit sixth and are formidable at home.

The Small Details Added Up

Fifth-placed Rennes hosts a Paris FC side revitalized since Antoine Kombouaré took charge, losing only once in their recent run to climb comfortably clear of relegation danger. Winger Mousa Al-Tamari scored a striking angled volley last Sunday and continues to thrive in Rennes' attack. Teammate Esteban Lepaul leads the league's scoring charts and needs one goal to reach the 20-mark in a remarkable comeback season after being released by Lyon a few years back. English forward Mason Greenwood has 15 league goals but has not found the net since early March.

Marseille's turbulent season has left a fractured dressing room heading into their game at Le Havre. Coach Habib Beye has increased training sessions but seen little improvement, with third place now beyond reach. They must arrest a run of inconsistent results.

At the opposite end, Auxerre hosts Nice with both clubs battling to avoid the drop. Auxerre sits in 16th place — the relegation-promotion playoff spot — but could move into 15th with a victory. The stakes could not be higher for either side.

The Table Looks Different

Lens will be missing several regulars against Nantes. Goal-scoring wingers Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin are being rested as a precaution, coach Pierre Sage confirmed. Mali midfielder Mamadou Sangaré, Saudi Arabia right back Saud Abdulhamid and midfielder Adrien Thomasson are all suspended. PSG right back Achraf Hakimi remains out with a hamstring injury. Marseille duo Nayef Aguerd (groin) and Hamed Traoré (thigh) will miss the remainder of the season.

In a separate development, female soccer fans of Bordeaux have reported being subjected to abusive body searches by security officials before a fourth-tier game at Bayonne. The Ultramarines supporters group posted a statement on X describing "humiliating and degrading acts" during pat downs at the stadium entrance. The group vowed to take the abuses seriously and ensure accountability. The incidents were reported to Her Game Too, an organization advocating for the protection of female sports fans in stadiums.
