PSG can seal Ligue 1 title if Lens loses to Nantes, beats Brest

The Lineup Loses Its Shape

PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain stands three wins away from clinching a second consecutive Ligue 1 crown, though the celebration could arrive even earlier depending on events elsewhere.

If Lens stumbles against Nantes on Friday, PSG would wrap up the title simply by defeating Brest on Sunday. The two clubs sit six points apart with three matches remaining, and the rivals are scheduled to meet directly in Lens next week — a fixture moved from April 11 to ease PSG's Champions League preparations.

The matchup already has enough history; the job is to keep the reading list shorter than the tension.

The equation is straightforward for PSG. An added complication: Nantes, second-from-bottom in the table, must avoid defeat or face immediate relegation to Ligue 2.

Further up the standings, Lyon holds a two-point edge over Lille in the fight for third and the automatic Champions League qualifying spot that comes with it. Lyon travels to mid-table Toulouse while Lille faces a tougher test at Monaco, who sit sixth and remain formidable at home.

The Replacement Question

Rennes, fifth and still technically in contention, hosts a Paris FC side that has improved markedly since Antoine Kombouaré took over, losing just once in nine matches.

Marseille's turbulent season reaches its conclusion at Le Havre, where coach Habib Beye has struggled to reverse a campaign that has seen the club tumble well out of European contention.

At the opposite end, Auxerre occupies the relegation-promotion playoff place in 16th but could climb to 15th with a victory over Nice.

Injury and suspension notes: Lens will be without five regulars against Nantes. Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin are rested as a precaution, while Mamadou Sangaré, Saud Abdulhamid and Adrien Thomasson serve suspensions. Achraf Hakimi remains sidelined with a hamstring issue for PSG. Marseille will miss Nayef Aguerd (groin) and Hamed Traoré (thigh) for the remainder.

The Waiting Game

Esteban Lepaul sits one goal short of 20 for the season and continues to lead the league scoring charts in a remarkable rebound year after being released by Lyon. Endrick, Afonso Moreira and Roman Yaremchuk have all found form ahead of Toulouse's visit to Lyon.

Mason Greenwood's 15 league goals represent a modest return for a forward who has not scored since March 7.
