The Nashville Predators acquired forward Ross Colton and goaltender Isak Posch from the Colorado Avalanche in an NHL trade that sends goaltender Magnus Chrona and two third-round draft picks back to Colorado.
Nashville announced the deal Tuesday through general manager Chris MacFarland, and Colorado confirmed the same trade terms from the Avalanche side. The Predators sent their own third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Colorado's own third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft that had previously been moved to Nashville, and Chrona to the Avalanche.
Predators Add Colton And Posch
Colton is the immediate NHL piece for Nashville. The Predators described him as a middle-six fit, with MacFarland saying the club was excited to add a "versatile, two-way winger" to its forward mix.
The 29-year-old had 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists, a plus-9 rating, 153 shots and 159 hits in 73 games for Colorado in 2025-26, according to Nashville's announcement. The Predators also listed him with 89 goals over six NHL seasons and noted that he has reached the postseason in each of those six campaigns.
Colton's Colorado stay included a 40-point season in 2023-24, when he posted 17 goals and 23 assists. Pro Hockey Rumors noted that his role shifted more toward a physical depth profile over time, but the official numbers still show a player who can give Nashville contact, pace and enough finishing to matter below the top line.
Posch gives Nashville another young goaltender in the system. Pro Hockey Rumors reported that he recorded 15 wins, two shutouts and an .891 save percentage in 28 games with the AHL's Colorado Eagles after signing with the Avalanche out of St. Cloud State. The same report said he had 12 wins and a .923 save percentage in 22 games in his lone season as St. Cloud's starter.
Avalanche Get Picks And Chrona Rights
Colorado's official announcement framed the return around two third-round picks and Chrona. The Avalanche said they acquired Chrona, a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick from Nashville in exchange for Colton and Posch.
Chrona, 25, spent last season with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. Colorado's announcement listed him at 9-11-3 with an .894 save percentage, a 2.94 goals-against average and one shutout in 25 games. The previous season, also in Nashville's organization, he went 12-11-5 with a .903 save percentage and a 2.80 goals-against average over 30 appearances.
Pro Hockey Rumors added that Chrona made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks in 2023-24 and has signed a two-year deal with Brynas IF in Sweden's SHL beginning in 2026-27. That makes the draft-pick portion the cleaner long-term value for Colorado, while the goalie-rights swap sorts out depth-chart paperwork.
Why Colton Fits Nashville
The trade gives Nashville a finished NHL forward without waiting on the draft picks to develop. Colton has played six straight playoff seasons, and Nashville credited him with 28 points in 75 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
For the Predators, the calculation is straightforward: pay two third-rounders and a goaltender outside the immediate NHL picture for a forward who can take regular shifts now and a younger goalie option in Posch. For Colorado, moving Colton trims from the NHL roster while putting two mid-round picks back into the system.
