The Phoenix Suns are reportedly keeping guard Collin Gillespie on a four-year, $48 million contract, giving the NBA club a long-term answer after his breakout season.
Hoops Rumors reported that ESPN's Shams Charania said Gillespie will remain with Phoenix on the four-year deal. The outlet also cited Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reporting that the contract is fully guaranteed.
Gillespie Turns Breakout Year Into Security
The agreement is not framed as a team announcement yet, so the useful wording is important: this is a reported deal, sourced to national NBA reporters. ESPN's team API verifies the Phoenix Suns entity and lists the club as active in the NBA.
Gillespie, 26, had his best professional season in his second year with Phoenix. Hoops Rumors reported that he averaged career highs of 12.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals while appearing in 80 games.
He also set a Suns franchise record with 232 made three-pointers, according to the same report. That shooting volume explains why Phoenix moved to keep him before the guard market fully opened.
Phoenix Keeps A Developed Guard
The reported contract would be Gillespie's first multiyear NBA deal. He went undrafted out of Villanova in 2022 and started his career on three two-way contracts, first with Denver and later with Phoenix.
Hoops Rumors noted that Gillespie played 24 games for Denver in 2023-24, then appeared in 33 games for Phoenix the following season before receiving a one-year minimum deal last summer.
