Manchester City forward Phil Foden has signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the Premier League club until 2030.
The agreement extends Foden’s long association with City, where he progressed through the Academy before establishing himself in the senior side. The 26-year-old has collected 17 major trophies with the club, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
“Playing for this Club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt,” Foden said.
He also reflected on his role during one of the most successful periods in Manchester City’s history. “It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.”
The extension comes as City begins a new era in Manchester following Pep Guardiola’s departure at the end of last season. Former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has taken charge of the team.
City has also agreed a deal for England international Elliot Anderson to join from Nottingham Forest. The reported fee is 116 million pounds, equivalent to about $155 million.
Foden is regarded as one of the leading English players of his generation, although his latest season ended in disappointment. He was left out of England’s World Cup squad after struggling to produce his best form during the campaign.
Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana believes Foden still has room to improve despite his experience and extensive trophy record. “At 26, his development is still ongoing, and we look forward to seeing the player Phil can become over the coming years,” Viana said.
