The Edmonton Oilers signed goaltender Connor Ungar to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 NHL season, Pro Hockey Rumors reported from a team announcement.
The deal carries an $850,000 NHL salary. Ungar, 24, has been in the Oilers organization for several years and now remains in the system after getting his first AHL run with Bakersfield.
Ungar Stays In Oilers System
Ungar's route has not been a straight line. He played junior hockey with the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors, Red Deer Rebels and Brandon Wheat Kings, then spent a year at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.
His final major junior season was the strongest early marker in the file. Pro Hockey Rumors lists Ungar with a 26-7-0 record in 38 games for Moose Jaw in 2022-23, with a .925 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average.
Ungar then began his professional career in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets. In 35 games there, he went 19-12-4 with a .903 save percentage and a 2.74 goals-against average.
Bakersfield Numbers Give Deal Context
This past season, Ungar moved through the ECHL with Fort Wayne, Greensboro and Orlando, but his Bakersfield sample is the reason the contract has roster value. In 13 AHL games with the Condors, he went 9-2-2 with a .923 save percentage and a 2.51 goals-against average.
The one-year contract gives Edmonton another goaltender under team control for organizational depth. It also keeps Ungar connected to Bakersfield, where his first AHL games gave the Oilers a more current read than his ECHL stops alone.
For Ungar, the transaction is a modest but concrete step: a two-way NHL contract after moving from major junior, through university and the ECHL, into a successful AHL look.
