The New York Mets placed right-hander Christian Scott on the injured list Monday with a right hip impingement, ESPN reported, removing another starter from an already strained MLB rotation.
Scott, who turned 27 on Monday, has a 3.10 ERA across nine starts this season. ESPN reported he had been scheduled to start Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Scott Injury Hits Mets Rotation
Scott allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings in his last outing Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The hip issue now pushes him off the active roster before a road stretch that begins in Cincinnati.
The Mets were already carrying rotation injuries. ESPN reported Clay Holmes is on the injured list with a fibula issue and Kodai Senga is out with a back injury. Holmes is not expected back until August, while Senga could be activated after another minor league rehab start.
That leaves the Mets trying to cover innings while also dealing with David Peterson's uneven season. Peterson was an All-Star last year, but ESPN listed him with a 5.75 ERA in 61 innings this season.
Roster Moves Follow Scott IL Decision
The Mets made several other moves Monday. ESPN reported they optioned right-hander Daniel Duarte to Triple-A Syracuse, called up right-handers Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro, and claimed infielder Zack Short off waivers from the Tigers.
They also transferred Jorge Polanco to the 60-day injured list. The collection of moves gives New York more active-roster cover, but it does not change the central problem: another planned starter is unavailable.
The timing lands after the Mets won a series against the first-place Atlanta Braves. ESPN reported New York still entered Monday at 32-39 and last in the National League East, with three games in Cincinnati followed by three in Philadelphia.
Scott's IL placement gives the Mets another rotation absence to solve immediately, with Holmes and Senga already out and Tuesday's scheduled start against the Reds no longer attached to Scott.
