The New York Jets have agreed to a four-year, $62 million contract extension with right guard Joe Tippmann, keeping the 25-year-old under contract through the 2030 NFL season, according to ESPN.
ESPN reported that the deal includes $31 million in new guarantees and guaranteed money through 2028. Tippmann had been entering the final year of his rookie contract and would have been eligible for free agency in 2027.
Tippmann Deal Locks In Jets Interior Line
The extension carries a $15.5 million average annual value, which ESPN said makes Tippmann the NFL's 15th-highest paid guard. The former second-round pick has made 48 starts and logged more than 800 snaps in each of his first three seasons.
Tippmann played center as a rookie in 2023 and for parts of 2024 before moving full-time to right guard in 2025. ESPN noted he has missed only one game in three years, giving the Jets a durable interior lineman to retain before the market could reach him.
The move is part of a broader Jets push to keep younger starters. ESPN reported that New York re-signed running back Breece Hall in May and previously extended Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, Jeremy Ruckert and Josh Myers, though Gardner was later traded to Indianapolis.
New York Keeps Most Starters Through 2027
ESPN reported that, after Tippmann's extension, every Jets offensive starter except quarterback Geno Smith is under contract through at least 2027. That group includes Tippmann, left tackle Olu Fashanu and right tackle Armand Membou.
The timing matters because Tippmann was moving toward the open market after 2026. By completing the agreement now, New York avoids taking a starting guard with center flexibility into a contract year.
The deal gives general manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn another fixed point on an offensive line that the Jets have been trying to stabilize around Smith.
