The New England Revolution have signed defender Will Sands to a contract extension that runs through the 2029-30 MLS season, keeping the 25-year-old left back in New England on a long-term deal.
MLSSoccer.com listed the move as an official Transfer Tracker extension. The club did not disclose salary terms, but the length of the agreement gives the Revolution a settled defensive piece across multiple roster cycles.
Sands Stays With New England Through 2029-30
Sands joined the Revolution during the summer of 2024 and has made 41 appearances across all competitions for the club. MLSSoccer.com credited him with one goal and three assists during that stretch.
Sporting director Curt Onalfo said in the club announcement that Sands has continued to grow as both a player and teammate since arriving in New England. Head coach Marko Mitrovic also backed the deal, pointing to the defender's development and future progress.
The extension is a useful piece of business because it removes near-term uncertainty around a position that often becomes expensive in MLS. Sands gives New England continuity at left back and a player already integrated into the team's league schedule and training rhythm.
Columbus Background Adds MLS Experience
Before joining the Revolution, Sands spent two and a half seasons with Columbus Crew, where he made 27 appearances. He was also part of the Columbus side that won MLS Cup in 2023.
That background matters for New England because Sands is not being retained as a speculative prospect. He has already logged league minutes with two clubs and has postseason-winning squad experience on his record.
MLSSoccer.com noted that the Revolution return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup pause on July 22, when they host Toronto FC. Sands now goes into that restart with his contract status settled and a longer runway in New England's defensive plans.
