The Club Hits Reset
Canadian defender Moise Bombito took part in modified training on Monday as his status for the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains uncertain. He ran with a noticeable hitch and went through passing drills, training separately from the main group alongside Alfie Jones, who is dealing with an ankle issue.
Pierre Barrieu, Canada's director of sports science, worked with Bombito on the session. The centre back has tape on his lower left leg. TSN's Matthew Scianitti reported that Bombito broke his leg last October and returned to play just 30 minutes in a friendly against Uzbekistan before limping off the field.
The Timing Says Plenty
Ralph Priso, a leading candidate to replace Bombito should he be ruled out, was also on the field Monday. He ran in sneakers rather than cleats as he progresses through the return to play protocol. Team captain Alphonso Davies, recovering from a hamstring injury, was likewise working through his own recovery program.
Head coach Jesse Marsch said Sunday he would give Bombito "up until the last minute" to prove his readiness. The team must finalize any roster change by June 11 at 3:00pm ET—24 hours before Canada's opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Next Hire Matters
The injury situation extends beyond Bombito. Marcelo Flores is out with a torn ACL, while Jacob Shaffelburg, Ali Ahmed, and Alfie Jones are all managing hamstring or ankle issues.
