Mexico vs Serbia: Kickoff

Where The Story Turns

Mexico continues its World Cup build-up on Thursday with a final friendly against Serbia in Toluca. It is the last chance for El Tri to sharpen before the tournament begins next week.

The match kicks off at Estadio Nemesio Diez at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on June 4. Viewers in Mexico can watch on Canal 5, Azteca 7, TUDN or ViX. Those in the United States have options through FOX Sports, Univision or ViX. There is no broadcast in Canada or the United Kingdom.

The matchup already has enough history; the job is to keep the reading list shorter than the tension.

The Stakes In Plain Sight

Javier Aguirre's side enters in strong form, unbeaten in seven matches with wins over Ghana and Australia keeping clean sheets in both. The only blemishes were draws against Portugal and Belgium—a decent stretch, though not one that dominated the conversation.

Serbia, meanwhile, is not bound for the World Cup and showed little in a 3-0 loss to Cabo Verde last time out. That result sits uncomfortably beside the talent in their squad.

The Question Left Open

The stakes become clearer when looking ahead. Mexico opens the 2026 World Cup on June 11 against South Africa—the same opponent who welcomed them in 2010. A second group match follows eight days later against South Korea, before El Tri finishes against Czechia on June 25.

Serbia will not play again until September, giving their players an unusually long break ahead of the new season.
