Manchester City has completed the signing of England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a reported 116 million pounds ($155 million).
The fee is a City record, surpassing the 100 million pounds ($139 million) paid for Jack Grealish in 2021, and ranks among the largest in Premier League history. The 23-year-old Anderson signed a five-year contract.
Anderson described City as one of the world’s biggest clubs and praised the strength of the squad in every position. He said he was determined to complete the transfer as soon as he learned of City’s interest.
“As a footballer, you want to test yourself at the highest level,” Anderson said. “Being at City means I have that opportunity.”
He becomes City’s first major signing since Pep Guardiola stepped down at the end of last season. Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is leading the club into its new era.
Director of football Hugo Viana highlighted Anderson’s energy, work rate and passing range, describing him as one of the leading young midfielders in world football. Viana also pointed to the player’s recent improvement and desire to develop.
Viana believes Anderson has the potential to become a complete midfielder and considers Manchester City the right place for him to continue progressing.
Anderson began his career at Newcastle before joining Forest in 2024. His performances there earned him a place in the England squad, and he was a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s team when England won bronze at the World Cup.
After taking a break, Anderson plans to begin working toward a place in the City team as soon as he arrives in Manchester. He said the club’s focus on winning trophies and competing at the highest level made the move especially appealing.
England forward Morgan Rogers also completed a transfer to Chelsea earlier this week for a reported 117 million pounds.
