Lucas Bergvall has told Tottenham Hotspur he wants to leave the Premier League club this summer, with Chelsea among the teams monitoring the Sweden midfielder, talkSPORT reported.
The 20-year-old still has five years left on his Spurs contract after signing an extension in April 2025, so the development is not a free run at a deal. The verified point is narrower: Bergvall has informed Tottenham of his wish to pursue a new challenge.
Chelsea, Villa And Forest Track Bergvall
talkSPORT reported that Chelsea are monitoring Bergvall, while Aston Villa remain interested after a failed January attempt. The outlet also said both Chelsea and Villa had transfer enquiries rejected by Tottenham earlier this year.
Nottingham Forest are also watching the situation, according to talkSPORT, with Bergvall viewed as a possible replacement for Elliot Anderson. That interest does not amount to an agreement or a formal accepted bid, and Tottenham still control the contract.
Aftonbladet, citing David Ornstein of The Athletic, also reported Sunday that Bergvall wants to leave Tottenham and noted interest from English and European clubs. The Swedish outlet said he is under contract with Spurs through June 2031.
Tottenham Rebuild Leaves A Decision
The timing adds pressure to a Tottenham rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi. Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League last season and will be without European football next term, talkSPORT reported.
Bergvall joined Tottenham from Djurgarden in 2024, aged 18. He has made 78 first-team appearances for the club, with two goals and nine assists, and was part of the squad that won the Europa League in 2025, according to talkSPORT.
His most recent Spurs season was uneven but still substantial. talkSPORT listed 33 appearances across all competitions, while Aftonbladet reported 23 Premier League appearances, including 11 starts, with part of the campaign interrupted by injury.
Tottenham have already moved in the market, with Jan Paul van Hecke joining from Brighton for GBP52 million and Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi agreeing free transfers, according to talkSPORT. The same report said Spurs have also seen an opening offer for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali turned down and have enquired about West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
For Spurs, the issue is whether to keep a young midfielder tied down through 2031 or convert outside interest into a sale during a summer when the squad is already changing. For interested clubs, the long contract is the first obstacle.
