Cristian Chivu rotated his squad before Inter welcomes Arsenal in the Champions League. Pio Esposito partnered Lautaro Martínez, and the pairing produced the breakthrough in the 20th minute.
Piotr Sebastian Zielinski slipped a through ball into the penalty area, Esposito redirected it with a backheel, and Lautaro Martínez forced his way across before driving a shot into the bottom right corner.
Federico Dimarco thought he had added a second for Inter in the 61st minute after another Esposito assist, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Arsenal enters the Champions League match top of the table after winning all six of its matches, while Inter has lost its past two and sits sixth.
Napoli ended a run of three consecutive draws against Sassuolo, though the win came with injury concerns. Stanislav Lobotka scored in the seventh minute after Arijanet Muric parried an Eljif Elmas shot, but Elmas and Amir Rrahmani both came off in the second half.
Rrahmani appeared to have a muscle issue in his left thigh, while Elmas felt dizzy after taking a knock to the head. Matteo Politano also appeared to have a muscular problem in stoppage time but stayed on because Napoli had used all of its substitutions. Napoli visits Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Fourth-placed Juventus lost 1-0 at Cagliari, which scored in the 65th minute from a low free kick by Gianluca Gaetano that Luca Mazzitelli volleyed into the bottom corner. Mazzitelli had earlier avoided conceding a penalty for an apparent foul on Fabio Miretti after a video review, and Cagliari moved eight points above the drop zone.
