MUNICH — Harry Kane will miss Bayern Munich’s next game against Borussia Moenchengladbach because of a calf injury, interrupting his push toward the Bundesliga single-season scoring record.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said Kane took a knock to his calf and has not recovered enough to be involved. Kompany described the injury as not serious, but confirmed the forward will play no part in the match.
The absence comes with Bayern in position to extend its lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 14 points. Kane’s injury also removes one of the league’s most productive scorers from a game that could have helped Bayern create more separation.
Kane has scored 30 Bundesliga goals, leaving him 11 short of Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41. There are 10 league games remaining, so every missed match narrows the window for that chase.
Kompany said Bayern would have liked to have Harry available, but the club is relaxed about the situation because the problem is not viewed as serious. His comments indicated the decision was based on recovery time rather than a longer-term concern.
Kompany did not express concern that Kane would miss Bayern’s visit to Atalanta in the Champions League round of 16. For now, Bayern’s immediate adjustment is straightforward: play Borussia Moenchengladbach without its leading Bundesliga scorer.
