Juventus produced an immediate response to Igor Tudor’s firing, beating Udinese 3-1 in Serie A to stop an eight-match winless run that had stretched back to mid-September.
Dusan Vlahovic put the Bianconeri ahead after earning and converting a penalty. Nicolò Zaniolo brought Udinese level, but Federico Gatti headed Juventus back in front before Kenan Yildiz sealed the result in stoppage time with another penalty he had earned himself.
Tudor was dismissed after three consecutive losses. Interim coach Massimo Brambilla took charge against Udinese, while Luciano Spalletti, the former Napoli and Italy coach, was expected to become Juventus’ new manager.
Giorgio Chiellini addressed the situation before kickoff, calling Spalletti “a great coach” with “experience and a modern style of football,” while adding that there was still no signature.
The win moved Juventus into seventh place, behind Italian league leaders Napoli and Roma. Roma rejoined Napoli at the top with a 2-1 victory over Parma.
Roma find more edge under Gasperini
At the Stadio Olimpico, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side showed more attacking sharpness. Mario Hermoso scored his first Roma goal, heading in a corner at the back post, and Artem Dovbyk doubled the lead by turning in a rebound.
Alessandro Circati scored for Parma late on. Roma also had a Matias Soule goal ruled out after a VAR review, Leon Bailey missed wide from close range with the goal open, and Paulo Dybala had an acrobatic header pushed away with a fingertip save.
Inter Milan answer Napoli loss at San Siro
Inter Milan recovered from its 3-1 defeat at Napoli by beating winless Fiorentina 3-0 at the San Siro, with all three goals coming after halftime.
Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring from distance with a shot that appeared to surprise David de Gea, whose view may have been blocked. Peter Sucic then dribbled past four defenders before scoring, and Calhanoglu added another from the penalty spot.
Also, big-spending Como beat Hellas Verona 3-1 through goals from Tasos Douvikas, Stefan Posch and Mërgim Vojvoda to move back to fifth. Federico Bonazzoli scored twice for promoted Cremonese in a 2-0 win at Genoa as Jamie Vardy’s new team climbed to eighth, while Bologna and Torino drew 0-0.
