Jose Siri Walk-Off Single Lifts Angels Past Astros 3-2 In 10 Innings

Jose Siri hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning Wednesday night in Anaheim, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 3-2 MLB win over the Houston Astros after Mike Trout and Logan O'Hoppe homered earlier in the game.

Jose Siri Ends Angels-Astros Game In The 10th

Houston reliever Bryan Abreu, who fell to 2-3, entered for the 10th with automatic runner Nick Madrigal on second base. Pinch-hitter Donovan Walton opened the inning with a single that moved Madrigal to third, and Siri followed by sending an 0-2 pitch to left field to score the winning run.

It was a tidy finish to a game that had already made room for one late replay argument and several pitching details. Siri also did it against one of his former teams, which is the kind of baseball footnote that rarely needs extra decoration.

Detmers Carries No-Hit Start Into Sixth

Angels starter Reid Detmers retired his first 15 batters before Shay Whitcomb led off the sixth inning with a homer for the Astros. Detmers allowed only one hit over seven innings, struck out nine and walked none.

AP reported that Detmers ranked third in the American League with 97 strikeouts and had allowed three or fewer earned runs in eight of his last nine starts. Houston starter Peter Lambert kept the Astros close, allowing two runs and five hits with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Replay Challenge Keeps Houston From Ninth-Inning Lead

The Astros tied the game 2-2 in the eighth when Cam Smith opened the inning with a home run off Chase Silseth. Houston nearly moved ahead in the ninth after Yordan Alvarez singled with two outs and Christian Walker doubled, but the Angels challenged the safe call at home plate and the ruling was overturned after review.

Alvarez still extended his on-base streak to 17 games. The Astros move on to a three-game series at Kansas City beginning Friday night, while the Angels stay home to open a three-game set against Tampa Bay on Friday.
