Jake Bauers is out of the Milwaukee Brewers lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, with Nick Lodolo starting for Cincinnati.
The left-handed-hitting Bauers has drawn regular starts against left-handed pitching this season, but Milwaukee will open this matchup with him on the bench. Andrew Vaughn will start at first base, while Sal Frelick will play right field.
Christian Yelich is also absent from the starting lineup as the Brewers adjust against Lodolo. Gary Sanchez will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth in the series opener.
Sanchez entered the game after going 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Cubs. He hit Ryan Rolison's pitch out in the second inning while starting behind the plate as William Contreras received a day off.
Sanchez has been productive in a limited role, batting.300 with 9 hits in 30 at-bats, 3 home runs and 11 games in that stretch.
Milwaukee also received a positive update on Logan Henderson. Pat Murphy said Monday that he expects Henderson to return before the All-Star break after the pitcher worked 3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, striking out 7 while allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
Henderson threw 50 pitches, including 32 strikes, and averaged 92.9 mph with his four-seam fastball. Out since May 22 with a lower-back strain, he has a 2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 30 strikeouts over 23 innings with Milwaukee this season, and he is expected to make at least 1 more rehab start while building toward the 65-to-75 pitch range.
Brandon Woodruff also gave Milwaukee 5.2 scoreless innings against the Cubs, allowing 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 6. Since returning from shoulder inflammation, Woodruff has thrown 11.2 scoreless innings with 16 strikeouts and 2 walks, and his next start is set for Arizona.
