The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a two-year contract extension with long snapper Ross Matiscik, keeping one of the NFL's top specialists with the team through the 2028 season.

Big Cat Country reported the agreement on Wednesday, citing team information and multiple reports that put the deal at $3.8 million in new money. Matiscik, 29, had been entering the final year of his previous four-year, $5.07 million contract.
Long snappers rarely become headline players, which is usually how their teams prefer it. In Jacksonville's case, the extension keeps a reliable piece of the kicking and punting operation from turning into a contract-year question.
Jaguars Value Matiscik's Coverage Work
General manager James Gladstone pointed to Matiscik's consistency and his ability to get downfield on special teams as reasons for the move. That is not just front-office politeness. Since entering the NFL, Matiscik has been credited with 22 special-teams tackles, tied for the most among long snappers over that span.
The Jaguars' own roster page lists Matiscik as a Jacksonville long snapper and notes he originally joined the team as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Baylor in 2020. Big Cat Country reported he has played 101 games for the franchise.
All-Pro Resume Gets Paid Through 2028
Matiscik has earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in each of the last three seasons, according to the team release cited by Big Cat Country. He was also the only first-team All-Pro selection on Jacksonville's roster in 2025.
His 2025 workload included 140 special-teams snaps and four tackles. The value of that job is easy to miss until it goes wrong, so Jacksonville chose the simpler route: pay the specialist who keeps the operation quiet, clean and boring in the best possible way.
