The Pressure Shows Up Early
MILAN — Inter Milan moved within touching distance of the Serie A title on Sunday, but the Nerazzurri made life slightly uncomfortable for themselves by surrendering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at Torino. The result leaves Inter 10 points clear of Napoli with four rounds remaining.
Marcus Thuram headed Inter ahead in the 23rd minute, meeting a trademark pinpoint cross from Federico Dimarco. That assist was Dimarco's 17th of the season — a new Serie A record for a single campaign. The 28-year-old extended that record after halftime, delivering a corner that Yann Bisseck headed inside the far post.
The trophy did not need much decoration; the season had already done most of the talking.
Inter seemed to be cruising toward victory until Giovanni Simeone pulled one back for Torino in the 70th minute with a clever finish. The striker backheeled a throughball into space for Emirhan Ilkhan, collected the return pass, and clipped it over goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Torino completed the comeback in the 79th minute when Nikola Vlasic converted a penalty after Duvan Zapata's header struck Carlos Augusto's arm inside the area.
The Detail That Tilts It
With that, Inter now needs merely to avoid a defeat against Parma next weekend to mathematically clinch the title — regardless of how Napoli and AC Milan fare in their own matches.
AC Milan remained 12 points behind its city rival after a 0-0 draw with Juventus at San Siro. The result left the Rossoneri in third place, effectively out of the title race but still in position for a Champions League spot.
Elsewhere, Como moved to within three points of fourth-placed Juventus and the final Champions League berth after a 2-0 win at Genoa. Tasos Douvikas and Assane Diao scored for the visitors. Roma, which won 2-0 at Bologna on Saturday, also remained level with Como in the battle for European qualification. Fiorentina and Sassuolo finished goalless.
