Inter are closing in on a Serie A transfer move for Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, with Football Italia reporting that the Italian champions want him to partner Josep Martinez as they prepare for life after Yann Sommer.
Inter Target Provedel As Sommer Exit Nears
The report, citing Sky Sport via CalcioMercato.it, says Inter are preparing to say goodbye to Sommer this summer and expect Martinez to be handed the number one shirt.
Provedel would arrive as an experienced deputy and competitor for Martinez, giving Inter another established Serie A goalkeeper as they try to keep strong depth between the posts. Football Italia described the Lazio keeper as one of the league's more dependable options during his time at the Olimpico.
Lazio Plan Mandas Promotion After Bournemouth Loan
The move would also fit Lazio's own goalkeeper reshuffle. Christos Mandas is expected to take the starting role following his return from a loan spell at Bournemouth, making Provedel surplus to requirements.
Lazio also have young goalkeeper Edoardo Motta, who signed for the club in January, likely to feature as Mandas' deputy. That gives the Rome club a succession plan rather than simply an empty space on the depth chart.
EUR3m Fee Would Give Inter Experienced Cover
Inter are understood to be willing to pay approximately EUR3 million to secure Provedel. For a goalkeeper with Serie A experience, that would be a modest fee and a practical way to back up Martinez without turning the position into a summer-long drama.
The important point is that this is still reported transfer movement, not an official club announcement. But the shape is clear enough: Inter want experience behind Martinez, Lazio appear ready to trust Mandas, and Provedel may become the piece that lets both clubs move on with their plans.
