Inter have the basis of an agreement on personal terms with Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, according to Football Italia, but the Serie A clubs still need to settle a transfer fee.
Inter Target Provedel As Sommer Exit Nears
Football Italia reported on June 10 that Inter have moved toward Provedel as part of their goalkeeping reshuffle. Yann Sommer, now 37, is leaving at the end of his contract later this month, forcing the Nerazzurri to adjust the depth chart.
Inter had been linked with Tottenham and Italy goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as a possible new No. 1. The cheaper plan, however, would be to promote Josep Martinez and then sign another experienced goalkeeper to support him.
That is where Provedel fits. The Lazio goalkeeper is 32, has extensive Serie A experience and is a former league goalkeeper of the year. It is not the flashiest way to replace a veteran starter, but football departments do occasionally enjoy solving expensive problems with smaller invoices.
Lazio Fee Still Needed For Ivan Provedel
The report says Provedel will enter the final year of his Lazio contract this summer, making him a relatively affordable target if Inter can agree terms with the Biancocelesti.
Football Italia, citing Alfredo Pedulla, reported that Inter and Provedel's agent have agreed in principle on a three-year contract. The proposed wages are said to be below EUR1.5 million per season.
The personal terms do not complete the deal. Inter still need to arrange a fee with Lazio, who will reportedly ask for around EUR5 million for the goalkeeper.
Josep Martinez Role Shapes Inter Plan
Provedel's agent was spotted at Inter headquarters on Wednesday, according to Football Italia, which added another layer to the talks. The structure being discussed points toward Martinez taking on a bigger role rather than Inter spending heavily on an external first-choice goalkeeper.
That distinction matters. If Martinez is promoted, Provedel would arrive as a seasoned Serie A option behind or alongside him, not necessarily as the marquee replacement for Sommer.
The remaining negotiation is straightforward enough in theory: Inter have the personal side lined up, Lazio have a price, and the gap between those two positions will decide whether Provedel becomes part of the Nerazzurri reset.
