FC Internazionale Milano confirmed that head coach Cristian Chivu has signed a contract extension keeping him in charge of the Serie A club until 2028.
Inter announced the renewal on June 18, 2026, calling it the official contract extension of the Nerazzurri coach. The club said Chivu was appointed Inter head coach on June 9, 2025.
Chivu Gets Inter Deal Through 2028
The agreement gives Inter coaching continuity after a first full season in which the club said Chivu oversaw 58 matches. Inter credited him with a double that included the club's 21st Scudetto and 10th Coppa Italia.
The official release also said Chivu was recognised as Serie A Coach of the Season for 2025-26. Those are club-supplied achievements, but the central news is narrower and concrete: Inter have extended the coach's contract through 2028.
Chivu's connection with the club predates his current job. Inter noted that he won three league titles as a player before returning to the technical staff and later taking charge of the first team.
Inter Tie Coach To Post-Title Cycle
The club framed the renewal around Chivu's first season as senior head coach and his earlier work in Inter's youth setup. The release said he had previously won with the Primavera side in 2022 before adding the senior Serie A title.
Inter also listed Chivu as the fifth coach in club history to win Serie A in his first season, after Arpad Weisz, Alfredo Foni, Giovanni Invernizzi and Jose Mourinho. The club added that he is the second Inter coach to win Serie A with both the first team and the Primavera side.
The extension does not disclose salary or further contract mechanics. It does, however, settle the immediate bench question for Inter as the club moves from a title-and-cup season into another cycle of Serie A, Coppa Italia, Italian Super Cup and Champions League commitments.
