Golden Knights steal Game 1 vs Hurricanes 5-4 in Stanley Cup Final opener

The Story So Far

Vegas claimed Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night, edging Carolina 5-4 on the road.

Tomas Hertl scored the go-ahead goal with under four minutes left in the third period. Shea Theodore and Brayden McNabb combined for six points from the defenseman position.

The Stakes In Plain Sight

Carolina got two goals from Nikolaj Ehlers, but the Hurricanes struggled through the final two periods. They committed costly turnovers and received insufficient goaltending from Frederik Andersen.

The series continues with Game 2 on Thursday in Carolina.
