Genoa have brought Tommaso Baldanzi back from Roma on an initial loan with an obligation to buy, completing the attacking midfielder's return after his second-half loan spell in Serie A.
Football Italia reported the move Friday, citing Genoa's official statement. The club said the transfer consists of a loan plus an obligation to buy, while the outlet reported that the buy clause is expected to be around 9.5 million euro.
Baldanzi Returns After Genoa Loan
Baldanzi, 23, spent the second half of the 2025-26 season with Genoa under Daniele De Rossi after arriving from Roma in January. Genoa's statement, as quoted by Football Italia, said he made eight appearances and supplied two assists during that loan.
The new agreement keeps him with Genoa for the 2026-27 season and is expected to become permanent once the obligation is triggered. Football Italia reported that Baldanzi is believed to be in line for a contract through the end of the 2029-30 season at that point.
De Rossi Gets A Familiar Midfielder
The deal continues a familiar link between De Rossi and Baldanzi. De Rossi first brought him to Roma from Empoli in 2024, then took him to Genoa on loan in January before the club moved to bring him back for another season and beyond.
Genoa described Baldanzi as an important figure in its attacking play during the second half of last season. The player said, in comments quoted by Football Italia from the club announcement, that he was pleased to continue in the Genoa shirt and still had more to prove to supporters.
For Roma, the transaction moves a young attacking midfielder off the books with a future sale mechanism attached. For Genoa, it gives De Rossi a returning player who already knows the squad and the role asked of him.
