Harry Kane extended his scoring run before a late injury scare as Bayern Munich beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, taking full advantage of the 1-1 draw between Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig earlier in the day.
Luis Díaz scored twice for Bayern, including the opener after just 15 seconds. Kane added Bayern’s second with a low shot from outside the penalty area, giving him 18 goals in 10 games for the club this season.
Kane needed treatment on his foot after colliding with Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kauã Santos in the 81st minute. He limped away from the incident but was moving more freely by the time Nicolas Jackson replaced him in the 85th.
Kane described the problem to Sky as “contact on the bone” and said it should clear up in a few days, adding that it would not affect his England duties next week.
“Winning games just breeds a big energy and we need to hold onto that,” Kane told Sky. “Obviously we go away now with the national teams and then we have a massive game at home when we get back against Dortmund on Oct. 18, but the feeling we have amongst ourselves is just to keep pushing. You saw that again today.”
Kane has scored in Bayern’s last six games in all competitions, with 12 goals in that span, and has found the net in all but one Bayern game this season. He later hit the post before Díaz outpaced Koch and made it 3-0 in the 84th.
The victory was Bayern’s 10th win in all competitions to start the season. Manuel Neuer also earned his 362nd Bundesliga win, matching the all-time mark held by former teammate Thomas Müller.
Eintracht Frankfurt failed to score for the first time in any game since April, after a run in which 30 goals had been scored across its previous five Bundesliga fixtures.
Dortmund And Leipzig Draw 1-1
Earlier, Dortmund Yan Couto had a deflected shot cancel out Christoph Baumgartner’s opener for Leipzig. The result stretched Dortmund’s unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions, but it also allowed Bayern to move four points clear.
Hjulmand Extends Unbeaten Start With Leverkusen
Kasper Hjulmand remained unbeaten through six games as Bayer Leverkusen coach after Ernest Poku and Christian Kofane scored in a 2-0 win over Union Berlin.
Leverkusen had an injury concern when Alejandro Grimaldo was taken off on a stretcher after a clash of heads with teammate Kofane. Grimaldo later indicated the injury was not as serious as it first looked, and German agency dpa reported he said it was only a cut while leaving the stadium with a large plaster over his eye.
It was Leverkusen’s first game without conceding since Hjulmand replaced Erik ten Hag last month after just two league games of the new season.
Banks Scores First Bundesliga Goal For Augsburg
Teenage American defender Noahkai Banks scored his first Bundesliga goal as Augsburg beat Wolfsburg 3-1. Starting a league game for the first time since February, the 18-year-old scored in the third minute.
Another early goal settled Werder Bremen’s 1-0 win over St. Pauli, with Samuel Mbangula scoring in the second minute.
