Dodgers Set Teoscar Hernández Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, putting one of the club's key bats on a path back from a strained left hamstring.

MLB.com reported that Hernández is expected to spend the week with the Oklahoma City Comets and play in four or five games during their road series in Reno. If that buildup holds, the Dodgers are likely to activate him during their series against the Athletics that begins June 29.

Rehab Plan Points To Athletics Series

The timing gives Los Angeles a clearer return window after Hernández missed three and a half weeks. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with the hamstring strain, and testing later showed it was a Grade 1 strain rather than a more serious injury.

The Dodgers have taken a fuller rehab route this time. MLB.com noted that Hernández dealt with a similar lower-body issue last season, a left groin strain, and played only one Minor League rehab game before returning. That injury lingered, which explains why the club is giving him more runway now instead of treating the first available date as the finish line.

There is still a little caution baked into the wording. A rehab assignment is not the same as activation, and the report framed the June 29 series as the likely target, not a guarantee. For a team trying to keep a championship lineup intact through the middle of the season, that distinction matters more than it sounds.

Dodgers Have Covered Left Field

Hernández's absence was not small. MLB.com reported that he hit .367 with a 1.018 OPS over the 18 games leading into the injury, and he had a .784 OPS across 51 games overall. That is real middle-order production to remove from a lineup, even for a club with the Dodgers' depth.

Los Angeles has used Alex Call and Ryan Ward in left field while Hernández has been out. Ward, listed as the Dodgers' No. 19 prospect by MLB Pipeline, went 9-for-40 in his first 14 games after being recalled from Oklahoma City, with seven of those hits going for extra bases: three home runs and four doubles.

Tommy Edman has also rejoined the left-field mix after coming off the injured list last week. That depth has kept the Dodgers from rushing Hernández, but it does not change the basic roster math. A healthy Hernández gives manager Dave Roberts a proven power bat back in the outfield and lengthens a position-player group that has been slowly getting healthier.

The next checkpoint is simple and concrete: Hernández needs to get through the Reno games, show the hamstring is ready for repeated game action, and give the Dodgers a reason to bring him back when the Athletics series opens.
