Arizona's official MLB.com report said Soroka went on the 15-day injured list with a strained right glute, while Lawlar landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. The Diamondbacks recalled infielder Tim Tawa and left-hander Jose Castillo from Triple-A Reno to cover the openings.
Lawlar And Soroka Hit Injured List
The double move is more than routine transaction housekeeping because the injuries came out of the same game. Soroka left Friday's start after he showed discomfort around the mound, and Lawlar's hamstring issue returned shortly after he had come back from a previous stint on the injured list.
Manager Torey Lovullo said the early read on Soroka was not as severe as the club first feared, with the team hoping the right-hander could be ready around the minimum injured-list window. Arizona did not put that hope into a firm return date, which is sensible because strained glutes and baseball calendars have never been famous for perfect coordination.
Lawlar's timeline was less tidy. The official report said he would take time away from baseball activities after feeling the hamstring again while swinging in the first inning Friday. Lawlar had returned Tuesday from a left hamstring strain, so the second IL move in the same week gives Arizona another development problem to manage with one of its key young infielders.
Tawa And Castillo Called Up From Reno
Tawa moved straight into the lineup at second base Saturday, a practical response to losing Lawlar from the infield group. Castillo arrived as the sixth pitcher used by Arizona in Friday's 9-8 loss, according to the team report, and stayed with the major league club as pitching depth.
The Diamondbacks also had to keep monitoring starter Zac Gallen after he dealt with ankle and hamstring tightness, though the club did not place him on the injured list in the same set of moves. That made the Soroka-Lawlar transaction the verified roster news rather than a broader injury forecast.
For Arizona, the immediate effect is clear: Soroka is out for at least the 15-day IL period, Lawlar is back down because of the same hamstring area, and Reno supplied one infielder and one left-handed arm while the Diamondbacks sort through another short-term roster crunch.
