D.C. United have signed homegrown midfielder Jackson Hopkins to a contract extension through June 2029, keeping the 21-year-old with the Major League Soccer club on a longer-term deal.
MLSsoccer.com listed the move as an extension and said Hopkins will now occupy a U22 Initiative roster slot. The club announced the agreement on May 27, and the terms give D.C. United a young domestic midfielder tied to the first-team group well beyond the current season.
Hopkins Gets Deal Through June 2029
The extension is a roster-building move more than a short-term selection note. Hopkins joined D.C. United in April 2022 and has been with the club across five seasons, according to the league's transfer tracker report.
MLSsoccer.com credited Hopkins with six goals and two assists in 88 matches for the Black-and-Red. Those numbers do not make him a finished attacking centerpiece, but they do show a player who has already logged regular first-team minutes before turning 22.
D.C. United managing director of soccer operations Dr. Erkut Sogut framed the deal around Hopkins' development and the academy pipeline, pointing to the club's record of producing players from the DMV region.

Hopkins is also part of the United States youth national-team pool. MLSsoccer.com said he has featured for the U.S. from the U-20 through U-23 levels, adding another development marker to the contract decision.
The U22 Initiative designation matters because it affects how the deal fits into MLS roster construction. For D.C. United, the extension keeps an academy product under control while preserving a defined roster mechanism for a player still young enough to grow into a larger role.
