D.C. United have waived defender Aarón Herrera, removing a veteran Guatemala international from their MLS roster, the club announced in an official MLSSoccer.com Transfer Tracker item.
The tracker listed Herrera's status as waived. The 29-year-old spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with D.C. United and recorded one goal and 12 assists in 63 MLS appearances for the club.
Herrera Leaves After All-Star Season
Herrera was named a 2024 MLS All-Star during his first season with D.C. United, according to MLSSoccer.com. His exit comes with the club ninth in the Eastern Conference at the FIFA World Cup break.
MLSSoccer.com listed D.C. United on 18 points through 15 matches, with a 4W-5L-6D record. The waiver does not include reported fee, contract or salary terms in the official item.
Herrera originally joined MLS in 2018 and had spells with CF Montréal and Real Salt Lake before his move to D.C. United. Across those two clubs, MLSSoccer.com credited him with two goals and 21 assists in 143 appearances.
Guatemala Defender Has 27 Caps
At international level, Herrera has been capped 27 times by Guatemala. That experience made him one of the more established defenders on D.C. United's roster before the club made the waiver decision.
The move is a roster transaction rather than a transfer agreement. MLSSoccer.com did not report a new destination for Herrera, and the official update keeps the focus on D.C. United's decision to waive him.
