Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark's international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, leaving the match abandoned and the football world holding its breath once again. The former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder fell to the turf with just over an hour played, prompting immediate medical attention from the Danish staff.
Team doctor Morten Boesen, who five years ago helped save Eriksen's life during the cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, confirmed the player walked off the field on his own. The pacemaker fitted after that incident responded as intended, meaning Eriksen was only briefly unconscious. DBU quickly allayed fears by stating Eriksen was conscious and doing well.
The record does not need much decoration; it already does the talking.
The 34-year-old has travelled to hospital for further tests to determine what caused the collapse. Eriksen played 34 times for Wolfsburg this past season, his second season with the German club after returning to professional football following the life-saving procedure that allowed him to continue his career with Brentford and later Manchester United.
