Canadian Alphonso Davies is facing another injury interruption after Bayern Munich confirmed he sustained a torn muscle fibre in his right hamstring during Saturday’s match against Frankfurt.
Davies, 25, left the field in the 47th minute and was later assessed by the club. Bayern Munich said he will be sidelined “for the time being,” while TSN Matthew Scianitti reported that the injury is being described as a “small hamstring tear.”
Scianitti wrote on X that there was “some relief” in the description of the injury, but also caution around the next steps. He added that Davies’ rehab and reloading, particularly his explosiveness, would likely be handled carefully.
The timing is significant for Canada because Davies returned from an ACL tear in January and had been working his way back toward form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Canada will co-host the tournament with the United States and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Davies has been a major figure for both club and country. He has made 161 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring nine goals, and has earned 58 international appearances for Canada since 2017.
His international record includes 15 goals, with the most notable coming against Croatia in 2022, when he scored Canada’s first-ever goal at the FIFA World Cup.
Canada also had another injury concern Saturday involving David. He was stretchered off during Union SG’s match against Antwerp in Belgium after a second-half collision with Daam Foulon.
