Major League Baseball named Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton the AL Player of the Week on Monday, while Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski and outfielder Jackson Chourio shared NL Player of the Week honors, according to MLB.com.
The weekly awards gave the league three very different snapshots of form: a healthy Buxton driving the Twins lineup, Misiorowski turning a start against Philadelphia into a power-pitching marker, and Chourio stacking production across a full six-game run for Milwaukee.
Buxton Adds Another Twins Weekly Award
Buxton went 11-for-24, a .458 clip, with three doubles, four home runs, seven RBIs, six runs scored and one steal over six games, MLB.com reported. The 32-year-old had 22 home runs through 61 games at the time of the report, with a .276/.336/.600 slash line and a 153 OPS+.
It was Buxton's second AL Player of the Week award of the season after he also won on May 4. MLB.com noted that his four career weekly awards tie Kent Hrbek, Joe Mauer and Kirby Puckett for the most in Twins history.
That is the durable part of the Buxton item. Weekly awards can be fleeting, but this one sits next to a larger Twins benchmark and a season pace that MLB.com framed against his career-high 35 home runs from last year.
Misiorowski And Chourio Split NL Honors
Misiorowski's award was built around his Friday start against the Phillies. MLB.com reported that he struck out 15 in a one-hit shutout and threw 58 of his 95 pitches at least 100 mph.
The article also cited a 104.5 mph fastball as the fastest pitch from a starter since pitch tracking began in 2008. Misiorowski had already won a Player of the Week award earlier in the season, giving him another league-level marker before the calendar reached July.
Chourio supplied the position-player half of Milwaukee's shared honor. He went 13-for-29, a .448 average, with five home runs, 10 RBIs and eight runs over six games. MLB.com reported that he hit safely and drove in at least one run in every game last week.
It was Chourio's first Player of the Week award. For the Brewers, it was also a team first: MLB.com reported that Milwaukee had never before had players earn co-honors.
Brewers Join A Short Teammate List
The shared NL award put Misiorowski and Chourio into a recent but uncommon teammate category. The last teammates to share Player of the Week honors were Houston Astros hitters Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman on Aug. 12, 2024, according to MLB.com.
The most recent NL teammate pairing before Milwaukee was Albert Pujols and Paul Goldschmidt with the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 22, 2022.
That context is what keeps the story from being only a weekly stat sheet. Buxton's award connects to Twins history, while the Brewers' split honor gives Milwaukee both a first for the club and a place in the league's short teammate co-winner trail.
