Brighton Make £30 Million Offer For Tottenham Defender Luka Vuskovic

Brighton & Hove Albion have made a £30 million offer for Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic, sources told ESPN, testing Spurs' stance on a Premier League prospect who has yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

The offer, worth about $40.2 million, comes with Tottenham also negotiating with Brighton over Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke. ESPN reported that Spurs have had an opening bid for Van Hecke rejected, leaving Vuskovic's situation tied to a wider defensive-market conversation between the clubs.

Brighton Bid Tests Tottenham Plan

Vuskovic, 19, agreed an initial £12 million move from Hajduk Split to Tottenham in 2023. He then joined Hamburg on a season-long loan, a move ESPN said was arranged because post-Brexit rules prevented Premier League clubs from signing players aged under 18.

That background matters because Tottenham have not yet seen him in their senior side. Brighton's bid puts a clear valuation on a player Spurs bought early, developed away from the club and may now have to decide whether to fold into their own first-team plans.

ESPN reported that it is unclear whether Tottenham would sanction a sale. That is the key line for the story: this is a formal source-backed offer, not a completed transfer.

Hamburg Loan Raised Vuskovic's Profile

Vuskovic impressed at Hamburg, making 30 appearances across all competitions. His rise has also moved into the international picture, with the defender included in Croatia's World Cup squad.

He made his Croatia debut in June of last year as a substitute against Czechia and scored his first international goal in a March friendly against Colombia. Croatia could use him against England next week, giving Premier League clubs another direct look at a player already inside Tottenham's system.

For Brighton, the profile is clear enough: young, already tested in senior football, and potentially available if Tottenham choose to turn promise into profit. For Spurs, the calculation is more awkward because defensive depth has already been part of their summer work.

Spurs Defence Still In Motion

Tottenham have already added two defenders this summer. Andy Robertson arrived after his Liverpool contract expired, while Marcos Senesi joined on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

The Van Hecke talks add another layer. If Tottenham continue to pursue the Brighton centre-back, Vuskovic could become either part of a separate negotiation or a player Spurs are reluctant to lose before giving him a senior chance.

Brighton's £30 million offer gives Tottenham a concrete decision rather than a vague market noise. The next step is whether Spurs treat Vuskovic as a future first-team defender or as the kind of asset that can help fund the rebuild around the back line.
