The Club Hits Reset
Bobby Tambling, the forward who held Chelsea's all-time scoring record for more than four decades, has died. He was 84.
Tambling scored 202 goals in 370 appearances for Chelsea between 1959 and 1970, a record that stood until Frank Lampard surpassed it in 2013. He made his debut at 17 years old and was part of the Chelsea side that won the League Cup in 1965, scoring against Leicester in the final.
His five goals in a single match against Aston Villa in 1966 remains a Chelsea record to this day.
The Timing Says Plenty
Tambling earned three international caps for England and also played for Crystal Palace. After settling in Cork, Ireland, he managed Cork Celtic, Cork City and most recently Crosshaven.
Chelsea described him as "one of our most legendary players" whose name is "written very large in our history."
Britain's Press Association reported Tambling had been diagnosed with dementia in recent years.
The Next Hire Matters
