Bayern Munich have signed goalkeeper Jannis Bärtl to a long-term contract, extending the 19-year-old's stay with the Bundesliga club after a season that moved him closer to the senior setup.
Bavarian Football Works carried the Bayern announcement and reported that Bärtl's previous deal had been set to expire in 2027. The club did not disclose the new contract length.
Bärtl Extends Bayern Stay
Bärtl was born on June 24, 2006 and has spent nearly all of his development inside Bayern's academy. Bayern's announcement said the Regensburg-born goalkeeper has been with the German record champions for almost 12 years, apart from a two-year loan spell at Karlsruher SC from 2023 to 2025.
Michael Wiesinger, Bayern's head of sport and youth development, described Bärtl as a homegrown goalkeeper and pointed to his reserve-team consistency and recent first-team training work. Bärtl said he has worn the Bayern shirt since he was eight.
The club's announcement credited Bärtl with 20 appearances in the Regionalliga Bayern last season and six clean sheets. He was also named to the matchday squad four times, including for the DFB Cup final, which Bayern won 3-0 against VfB Stuttgart.
Goalkeeper Depth Stays In Munich
The contract does not change Bayern's senior goalkeeper hierarchy overnight. Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich were all referenced in the surrounding context, while Bärtl's most regular work came with the amateurs and in training with the professionals.
It does, however, give Bayern another academy-trained goalkeeper under club control at a position where depth can turn quickly. Bärtl's loan at Karlsruhe and his reserve-team run last season gave Bayern enough evidence to extend the relationship rather than let the 2027 clock keep ticking.
For Bärtl, the deal is a development checkpoint rather than a senior breakthrough announcement. For Bayern, it is a low-noise piece of squad planning around a player who has already moved between academy, reserves and first-team training.
