Bayern Munich clinches Bundesliga title behind Harry Kane's fourth hat trick of season

Bayern Munich wrapped up the Bundesliga trophy on Saturday, finishing with 122 goals after a 5-1 win over Cologne gave Harry Kane his fourth hat trick of the season. Kane's tally reached 36 goals — five shy of Robert Lewandowski's league record from 2020-21 — as Bayern surpassed the old Bundesliga mark of 101 set by the 1971-72 team featuring Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller.

Leon Goretzka, leaving after eight seasons, scored the record-breaking goal with five rounds still to play. Max Eberl, Bayern's board member for sport, called it a celebration of togetherness. The team secured the title with four rounds remaining but had to wait until Saturday to lift the trophy. Manuel Neuer gave the silverware to Goretzka to raise as Queen’s "We Are The Champions" played and beer showers began on the field.

The matchup already has enough history; the job is to keep the reading list shorter than the tension.

Dayot Upamecano doused coach Vincent Kompany before he could reach his family on the sideline. Joshua Kimmich noted the squad would shift focus to the German Cup final against Stuttgart in Berlin’s Olympiastadion next Saturday.

Michael Olise, who finished with 15 goals and 22 assists across 32 appearances, was named Bundesliga player of the season on Saturday.
