Bayern Munich Defender Ljubo Puljić Joins Atalanta U23

Bayern Munich academy defender Ljubo Puljić has completed a permanent move to Atalanta Bergamo, with the Croatian centre-back set to join Atalanta's U23 squad on July 1.

Ljubo Puljić Leaves Bayern Munich

Bavarian Football Works reported the transfer using official statements from both clubs. Bayern said Puljić is leaving one year before his contract expires and moving to Italy, while Atalanta confirmed the permanent acquisition and the U23 destination.

The move closes a short but useful Bayern development spell. Puljić arrived from NK Osijek in the summer of 2023 after earlier time in the academies of Cibalia and Osijek, then worked through Bayern's youth and second-team setup.

Atalanta Add Croatian Youth International

Atalanta described Puljić as a left-footed central defender born on May 31, 2007 in Vinkovci. The club also listed him at 194cm, a useful number for a centre-back and not one that needs much embellishment.

Last season, Puljić made 15 appearances for Bayern Munich II in the Regionalliga and three for the U19 team, according to Bayern's statement cited by Bavarian Football Works. Atalanta also noted his UEFA Youth League appearance against Arsenal.

Bayern Academy Exit Brings Transfer Value

The timing matters for Bayern because Puljić had been approaching the final year of his deal. Bavarian Football Works noted that Bayern extended his contract by another year before the move, allowing the club to receive a transfer fee rather than lose him for nothing later.

Jochen Sauer, Bayern's director of youth development, framed the transfer as a chance for Puljić to take the next step toward professional football at a Serie A club. For Bayern, it is another academy exit. For Atalanta, it is a young defender with size, international youth experience and a clearer development lane.
